WHAT MAKES FLYERS YOUTH DIFFERENT
The Flyers Youth Hockey Club was created to utilize our many and varied resources to provide players of all levels and ability an opportunity to participate in a quality travel hockey organization. In our thirteenth season as an independent Non-Profit organization, we continue to develop our youth as players and teammates both on and off the ice. The Flyers Youth Hockey Club is a member of the New Jersey Youth Hockey League, and anticipates fielding teams at AA, A & B levels in each age group (no B Midget). Final level determinations will be made following the tryout process with the exception of Mite and Squirt levels which are determined by the NJYHL jamboree process. ALL Midget Teams will play SHORT SEASON. For those Midgets interested in playing until February, we will offer an extended Program consisting of one practice per week and participation in four to five Tournaments.
HOW ARE FLYERS YOUTH COACHES DETERMINED?
Our goal is to offer the best and most qualified coaches in the area to teach hockey to our children. All coaches submitted a coaching resume and application to our Coaching Selection Committee. The Committee reviewed all applications and resumes and invited the most qualified coaches to go through the interview process. Coaches were selected through this independent process based on their Experience, Hockey Educational Accreditation Level achieved, Personal Coaching Philosophy, and any other qualities that apply. All coaches are required to achieve the minimum coaching education accreditation established by USA Hockey for their respective age level coaching. Coaches will receive additional training during the course of the season in order to teach our children the basic and advanced skills required to play hockey and put each player in a position to develop to their maximum potential and to truly enjoy the game of hockey.
WHO DECIDES THE TEAMS?
Player Evaluations (tryouts) are open to all youth hockey players. Players will be selected and assigned to a team based on their performance during the evaluation process. Players must tryout at their age appropriate level. A Player Evaluation Committee has been formed and is responsible for working with the coaching staff of each team and will be directly involved in the assignment process. The Evaluation Committee will not have any affiliation with the players being evaluated. Players will be assigned to a team based on their age and ability level. Our staff will endeavor to place players at an ability level that will allow them to compete but be challenged to improve their game. We will strive to not place a player in a situation where he/she is overwhelmed. To ensure that teams are placed at the proper levels, Flyers Youth reserves the right to adjust the teams we field and the levels played (AA, A & B) based on the actual numbers and skill levels of players who attend tryouts.
HOW WILL I FIND OUT IF MY CHILD HAS MADE A TEAM?
The tryout process can be a very stressful time for everyone involved. Players, parents, coaches and club management must all do their best to ensure that every tryout participant is evaluated fairly, competently and thoroughly. During every try out session, players are evaluated and discussed amongst the coaching staff and evaluation committee. At the conclusion of the last tryout, the coaching staff and evaluation committee will have a final meeting to review the tryouts which have been conducted. Each player will be discussed individually and rated as to the appropriate level of play based on their performance during tryouts. Each evening of the tryout, a list of player names and jersey numbers by team will be called out on the ice, posted on the locker room doors and in the wall display case posted in the wall display case next to the trophy cases in the Skate Zone lobby.. Additionally, you will receive an email from your child’s coach with registration instructions; therefore it is very important to include your email address on your tryout application. Team selections will be announced in this manner only, most selections will be made by the conclusion of tryout time period, there could be a few exceptions that will be made within 24 hours of the final tryout. Although we would like to contact each player individually, we hope that you understand that it is difficult with the number of players that attend our tryouts. If your player is not selected to a team we thank you for your interest and hope that you will consider trying out again next year. For mite thru peewee age players, the Flyers Skate Zone has many “in house” and Limited Travel programs you may want to consider for your player.
HOW TO RESERVE A SPOT ON THE TEAM ONCE SELECTED?
If selected, player and parent will be presented with a contract. Both Parent and Player will sign contract and pay an initial payment of $800. Within a week following tryout, Head Coach will hold a Team meeting. Attendance at this meeting by at least one parent is mandatory. If you choose not to complete the contract and deposit process, the roster spot will be offered to the next player on the evaluation committee’s list.
On behalf of the board members, coaches, and many volunteers of the Flyers Youth Hockey Club, we thank you for your interest in our organization.
