Rick played travel hockey in Massena N.Y. (80 miles N of Lake Placid) from the age of 4 to 17.  He graduated from Massena Central HS (‘88), Rochester Institute of Technology (‘92) and then moved to Southern NJ in 1993.  Rick resides in EHT with his wife and 3 children, and remains active in men’s league hockey today.

Rick coached travel lacrosse in the SJ Youth League for 7 seasons.  He was the head coach for the Mainland middle school hockey program for 3 seasons, and has been on the bench as a head or assistant travel hockey coach for the past 3 seasons, reaching and advancing through at least the first round of NJYHL playoffs every year.  He holds a level 4 certification from USA Hockey.

I believe it is a privilege for players and coaches to be involved with travel hockey; a game that teaches us about character, sportsmanship, teamwork, failure, hard work, and reward.  It is an honor to be entrusted with development of players and building of an inclusive and dedicated team.  It is crucial that every player is committed to the team first, and understands the importance of each team member whether they absorb hits, block shots, or score goals.

Our players will represent the team by behaving with respect and sportsmanship, while competing with tenacity, and selflessness.  I believe in reward for hard work, that adversity builds character, and never quitting earns respect. I believe relentless effort and a strong culture will win over just talent every time.

Although accountability is initially instilled by the head coach, for a team to be truly successful they eventually must become accountable to each other.

Our objective is to build a committed, winning team, to advance through the NJYHL state championships, and to participate in the National Championship tournament.  We will create life long memories and always remember we are here to have fun, and strive to win together.  We will accomplish this by setting goals with the steps to achieve them.  We will develop the team with well planned, fast paced practices, and foster a culture where players are concerned about the team above individual statistics.
