USA HOCKEY LEVEL 4
Brian passion in life revolves around hockey and kids. Brian fell in love with the game of hockey in middle school when the Philadelphia Flyers were playing for the Stanley Cup against Wayne Gretzky and the Oilers. From that point until becoming a father of 4 life was all about hockey. Like many kids Brian spent every minute he could around the hockey rinks. Growing up in Pennsauken when the Twin Rinks that eventually became the Pennsauken Skate Zone were built just 4 blocks from Brian’s childhood home ice hockey became Brian’s focus. Brian played hockey throughout youth leagues, high school and college and had the opportunity to play in tournaments and participate in camps throughout the US and Canada. Upon graduating his college Brian moved back to Pennsylvania where he was able to take up coaching at the local high school level and play in men’s leagues and tournaments.
The next season in Brian’s life included starting a family. Brian and his wife Janet had 4 perfect children in the span of 6 years and with that came the transition to coaching kids. Once his kids became old enough to walk, Brian laced up their skates and set out on the ice whenever possible. Brian experience as a player and coach became instrumental as he became their skating and hockey coach by default and was able to train up 2 solid hockey players in his boys and one champion figure skater who also doubles as a hockey player in his daughter. Having worked their way through everything from Learn-to-Skate to Limited Travel his boys continued to improve and show a love for the game of hockey. That led to the opportunity to coach with the Flyers Youth Hockey Club which is truly a dream come true for the whole Bowman family. The opportunity to wear their beloved Philadelphia Flyers logo while playing and teaching hockey has been a perfect fit. The Bowman family’s time with The Flyers Youth Hockey Club has been a great experience for the whole the family. It is that kind of experience and love for the game of hockey that Brian strives to instill in his players as they make the transition into travel hockey easy on the player’s families as well.
As the coach of the youngest Flyers players Brian makes it his mission to make it a fun and rewarding experience for the kids and their families while giving the kids opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge they will need to be successful moving into the next level of hockey. Brian strives to keep practice time fun and engaging with specially designed practice plans that ensure that the kids get the necessary repetitions working on the fundamentals of skating and stick work. He also works hard to encourage team work and work ethic in his players that will be crucial life skills for success in hockey and anything the kids endeavor to do in the future.
